Orvex compared with other AI GitHub PR reviewers
Orvex is a GitHub App that reviews pull requests when they open. Deterministic checks run first, then two or four AI passes by track, then a verifier re-checks each finding against source before posting. Free: 10 lifetime reviews, no card. Paid plans are per workspace, $29–$99/month, not per seat.
There is no universal “best” AI code review tool. Public 2026 roundups more often list CodeRabbit, GitHub Copilot code review, Qodo, and Greptile. This page states what Orvex is and is not. It does not invent competitor feature matrices or unpublished prices.
Side-by-side
| Topic | Orvex | Typical dedicated reviewers (CodeRabbit, Qodo, Greptile) | GitHub Copilot code review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Orvex Review GitHub App | Vendor GitHub App or similar integration | Built into GitHub Copilot |
| Billing | Per workspace: $0 (10 lifetime), then $29 / $49 / $69 / $99 per month | Usually per developer seat — confirm on the vendor site | Bundled with a Copilot plan — confirm on GitHub |
| Pipeline | Deterministic rules, then 2 or 4 AI passes, then a source verifier | Vendor-specific; often LLM comments plus optional linters | GitHub-hosted Copilot review |
| Merge gate? | No. Suggestions only. Use branch protection and CI | Varies by product | Assignable reviewer inside GitHub |
| Nightly whole-repo scans | Not sold | Some vendors sell scheduled scans — check their docs | Not this product’s claim |
Is Orvex a CodeRabbit alternative?
Only if you want a GitHub App reviewer with per-workspace pricing and a verifier that drops findings it cannot re-check. Orvex does not claim CodeRabbit’s IDE/CLI surface, issue linking, or whatever else their current docs list. Read coderabbit.ai for that product.
When Orvex is a poor fit
- You already standardized on Copilot code review and do not want a second GitHub App.
- You need a required status check or merge blocker from the reviewer itself.
- You need a nightly scan of the default branch as a sold product — Orvex does not sell that.
When Orvex is a fit
- You want PR review billed per workspace, not per developer seat.
- You want deterministic rules in
.orvex-review.ymlbefore LLM spend. - You want posted findings checked against the diff before they land on the PR.
